Everyone is familiar with the phenomenon of operating on autopilot. You may find that you have arrived at your destination, but can’t quite remember how. Or you may be eating and before you realise it your plate is suddenly empty. Mindfulness is the opposite of autopilot. It's the art of being present in the here and now, in order to live more intensely.

Mindfulness in eight weeks
During the eight-week mindfulness training course (MBCT) you will learn to train your "attention muscle" through meditation exercises. By practising a lot on focusing your attention, you will practice coping differently with all the wild ideas in your mind, feelings and pain. You will learn to make conscious choices rather than reacting automatically. This will also make you better able to monitor your limits.

 

The here and now
Everyone benefits from mindfulness! Mindfulness is widely used to combat the following symptoms: stress, burn-outs, anxiety, sleep problems, physical symptoms and/or one or multiple depressions (in the past). Mindfulness is suitable for anyone who lives in his or her head and on autopilot. If you keep thinking about the past or worrying about the future, this may take over to such an extent that you "forget" to live in the here and now. This will change after following mindfulness training.

 

Be good to yourself
Research shows that mindfulness helps to prevent the occurrence of repeated depression. Repeat studies also show that mindfulness can improve your quality of life. Following the training helps to reduce stress, worry and anxiety. If it does not get rid of the symptoms, it may help to change your attitude towards your complaints. Finally, you will learn to develop a friendlier attitude towards yourself and others.

 

About the training

The meetings take 2.5 hours. In this time, we mainly practice and experience, for example using the body scan, focusing on breathing and moving with purpose. As such, they are not a support group! We will however exchange our experiences with the exercises. Also, something new will be explained at each meeting, for example about automatic pilot, the way that attention functions, and dealing with distractions and negative thoughts. Practicing the techniques every day is an essential part of the training. This can be done using audio files you receive upon participation.

  • Start 23rd of March: Thursday night from 7.30 - 10 pm FULL

All sessions: 23rd and 30th of March, 6th, 13th and 20th of April, 11th, 18th and 25th of May

  • Start 12th of October: Thursday night from 7.30 - 10 pm

All sessions: 12th, 19th and 26th of October, 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th of November

The fee is €325 for the entire course, including exercise book and audio material.

Mindfulness in Het Park

It's summer time again! And that means that we will meditate in Het Park if it is dry. Do you want to experience what Mindfulness is, without committing yourself to an 8-week training course? Or have you already followed Mindfulness training and do you want to continue practicing in a group? Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month you are welcome to join. Please bring a yoga mat or towel to sit/ lie on and warm clothes, as your body will cool down during the meditation practice. The fee for the session is € 5,-/ € 8,- of € 10,- dependent of your financial capacities. It is also possible to buy a ticket strip for six sessions, you pay five and get one for free.

We always gather at 7 pm and start at 7.15 pm. The location is just behind the Euromast in or around the white bead circle.
